HAPPY 4th of JULY!!!!

Hope you all are having a great independence day! We may not have had fireworks here in Tanzania, but boy have we had an explosive day! I started mine out with a private safari due to the fact that poor Amber had a fever since the night before and Marilyn was in much need of sleep! Little did I know that the morning would turn out to be such an adventure. Efraem and I did some tracking with the prints in the sand and found us two baby lion cubs with their mom about 25 feet from the road. We stayed long enough to watch them walk across the road and then headed out in search of the "kind of the jungle." The male had to be around some where!

We made the usual river circuit routes but didn't see much. Just before we headed back for breakfast we spotted a group of vehicles parked down the road. Efraem stepped on the pedal and we soon spotted two cheetas far in the distance. It was fun to watch them walk around but we knew we needed to get back to check on Amber. Hurrying was not an option when we came to a male and a female lion just 20 feet from the road side. It was by far the coolest animal I have seen yet on Safari. It was a young male because he has a very light mane. We finally got our fix and headed back to the lodge to find Marilyn already at breakfast and poor Amber still asleep in the tent.

The three of us packed up our things and headed out for Lake Manyara, with another pit stop at the Duka la Dawa on the way. Amber scored some local "cold medicine" in hopes that it would clear up her sinuses and get rid of her stupid fever. Efraem picked up lunch boxes at a local restaurant while the three of us browsed a Maisaii Market. Then it was lake time!

Lake Manyara was a much different scene then Tarangire. It was more of a jungle then desert so the animals were much harder to spot. Among the creek beds, we were able to spot two female lions lounging in the tree tops. Another new scene to Amber and I were the pink flamingos and hippo pods.

After animal watching we made our way to Karatu where we are spending the night before heading to Ngorogoro Crater. The hotel is soooo nice! Marilyn and I got massages and then sat pool side with a glass of white wine while Amber, again, caught some zzz's. Though she is feeling better, we are afraid she still might have a bit of a fever, so we ask that everyone be praying that she is better tomorrow for her birthday! How awful to be sick, driving on bumby roads, especially ON YOUR BIRTHDAY!!!!

We are off to dinner! Kwaheri!
Enjoy the fireworks!

P.S. We promise pictures around the 8th of July once we get to the Peacock!
