Island Life

Marilyn and I have this vacation thing down :) A few days of teaching, a few days of vacation! We are so glad to have our team here with us!

Dao picked Marilyn and I up at midnight Thursday night and we headed to the airport to wait for our team. We thought they were arriving at 1:10am, however, later discovered they were not due in until 3:20 :/ so we snuggled in for a nap in the car. There wasn't much sleep to be had, but we knew our team would be sleep deprived as well, so it didn't really matter.

The plane finally touched down about 3:30. The team found luggage and we were off to the Impala by 4. Together at last, we are nestled in for a few hours of sleep. Marilyn and I had scheduled a massage at the Lotus Spa in the Impala. We decided we had worked hard our first two weeks of teaching, we deserved some pampering again :) After massages we met the team and headed out to exchange some money, drop off luggage, and catch a puddle jumper to Zanzibar.

Of course, we weren't able to leave without a little hitch :) Upon further examination of our itinerary, we discovered that we were not leaving from Kilimanjaro Airport, but the Arusha Aiport, so Efraem quickly turned around and speed for the other airport. After arriving, we unloaded luggage and realized that we did not have Marilyn's small weekend bag. Efraem made a quick phone call to the office and had a "piki-piki" (motorcycle) speed to the airport with her luggage in tow. The airline was not very pleased that we were running behind and didn't have all of our luggage. The good thing was the airport is a very small outdoor airport and ours was the only flight taking off for a while. The motorcycle showed up, but it was tense for a bit :) Hakuna matata (no worries)! We took off without anymore hitches and made the one hour flight with ease.

After landing, we got luggage and made the hour drive to our lovely beach cottages. We are staying right on the Indian Ocean and have the most magnificent view of Zanzibar. We are enjoying the HOT weather and beach swings hanging around the bar area. Last night, the team enjoyed a round of grilled king fish and some fruity fancy cocktails before heading off to bed for a good nights sleep.

This morning we have enjoyed relaxing pool side with a view of the ocean and have plans to tour a "spice farm and market" this afternoon.

Tomorrow we have scheduled a private Catamaran Tour to an island off Zanzibar. We can't wait to share that experience with you and hope that we will still have good internet connection tomorrow so that we can add some pictures!

Stay tuned! Enjoy the following pictures of our "vacation" before "vocation"so far...
