Teaching in Tanzania

After some house cleaning this morning, floor mopping and preparing work for this afternoon, Marilyn and I have begun our second day of teaching at SEKOMU. We have 27 wonderful and eager students. We were thrilled to learn that SEKOMU is home to the ONLY Master's in Special Education Degree in AFRICA!!!! WOW! Way to go SEKOMU! We feel very honored to be teaching a course on Learning Disabilities to these Master level teachers :) Many of them have taught for over 20 years. The amount of experience they bring to the table is exceptional. The language barrier always proves to be difficult for both the students and us, but we are managing and hope that we are not giving them too much, too quickly! They have given us extraordinary work so far and seem to grasp the "text book" understanding of the material!

Tomorrow we will wrap up this weeks teaching and then head to Irente Cliff Lodge for the weekend. It is just 30 minutes from the college and offers a wonderful scenic view of Lushoto. We hope to have lunch with our "American friends", Tom and Susan, who have been working at the Irente Children's Home for a while now. Marilyn and I cannot believe how fast our time here in Tanzania has already gone! We look forward to the coming weeks and hope that you will continue to read about our time here. It has been wonderful having Internet readily accessible so that we can comminucate with friends and family back home.

Best wishes to those of you reading!
Take care and be praying for our continued successes!
